Recycled Materials

  • Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP)

Most overlay and patch projects generate asphalt chunks as a byproduct of the milling process. We are able to re-grind this old asphalt and incorporate it into the new mixes. When this recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) is heated, the liquid asphalt binder softens and acts just like virgin binder. Not only does this cut down on waste, but savings are passed to the customer by taking advantage of both the asphalt cement and aggregate that would have otherwise been purchased new.

  • Recycled Asphalt Shingles (RAS)

When a new roof is installed on an existing structure, the contractor must remove and dispose of the old shingles. Until recently, this meant taking them to a landfill with all the other garbage. As with RAP, by grinding and re-heating the shingles we can release the liquid asphalt for incorporation into the new mix. We currently accept shingles at our plant site for less than the cost of disposal at our local landfill.

Hot Mix Asphalt

Hot mix asphalt is comprised of about 95% stone and 5% liquid asphalt cement as a binder. Once the hot stone and asphalt are mixed together, they can be placed and compacted to form a long-lasting surface for many different applications.

  • Base & Surface Mixes

These are the most common mixes produced and are often used in conjunction with one another on many projects. Surface mixes provide strength and smoothness by utilizing smaller stone that is able to pack closely together.Base mixes have larger aggregate (typically 1”). This large aggregate size translates to a rougher surface but offers better structural support due to the large stone.

  • Porous Asphalt

Unlike standard asphalt and concrete pavements which are impervious to water, porous mixes allow water to flow through them while maintaining the appearance and functionality of traditional asphalt. This environmentally friendly process can earn LEED points on new construction projects as well as eliminate costly engineering and construction of detention basins and other stormwater remediation devices.

  • SuperPave

Short for Superior Performing Asphalt Pavement, these mix types use many different materials to ensure an extremely durable product for high volume traffic areas.

LEED Points

Short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, this program is used in construction and remodeling for green building projects. The use of asphalt can provide points for many things such as recycle content and proximity of materials. For more information visit
